NFL Quarterback Club 97

continued

looks like a winner
QBC 97 excels on the field, however. Graphically, the players look blocky up close, and the fans look like cardboard cutouts, but the motion capture is excellent. Players move realistically right up to their end zone celebrations. QBC 97 also allows you to choose from several different graphics modes (up to 1,024 by 768) and camera angles. If your PC has the power, shift into high resolution, and catch a ride with the blimp. Though not ideal for playing, the view is great.

NFL There are also several different stadiums, turfs, and weather conditions available, and all are realistically rendered (except when it rains in a dome). Each stadium even has appropriate banners in the stands. For example, Packer fans hang a sign that says "Cheddar Heads Rule." QBC 97 also has the best representation of referees that I've seen. They are on the field at all times, move realistically, and can be used to your advantage--just like the real game. The excellent animation is complemented by excellent sound. Cheers, drums, horns, whistles, and taunts are all Ragu. As a bonus, Acclaim also includes an announcer/referee who doesn't sound like Stuttering John Menendez.

NFL Quarterback Club 97 is a lot of fun to play, but loses an X for lack of coaching features and network support. If those features aren't important to you, bump it up an X. Everything that QBC does, it does well. If you want a great action-oriented football game with less emphasis on coaching, Quarterback Club is a lock.

tips
-Get a GrIP.
-Locate each quarterback's signature play and learn to use it. However, on't overuse it or the defense will get wise.
--On the Team Select Screen in Pre-Season mode, press F1-F1-F2-F2-F1-F2 to activate the constant turbo cheat. Press the buttons quickly; you will hear an audible cue when successful.
-Press F1-F1-F1-F4-F1-F1 to activate fumble mode (not recommended for actual play).
-Check out NFL QBC 97 Survival Kit for weekly tips and secrets.

Hugh Falk has no clue about the gaming industry in general and wouldn't know a good game if it was crammed down his throat.
